What’s Preventing You From Replacing Your Missing Teeth?
Gaps in a child’s smile may be cute and endearing, but let’s be realistic, it’s not the best look for adults! If you’re missing one or more teeth you may be lacking the confidence you once had, and more importantly, your oral health could be under risk of attack too.
Fortunately there is a solution which doesn’t necessitate damaging adjacent healthy teeth to ‘bridge the gap’ or involve you having to wear a plastic denture in your mouth. The answer is dental implantsand here at Confidental Clinic it’s a procedure which is becoming increasingly popular with our dental patients.
For those of you who may not know much about dental implants we’ve put together an infographic which explains firstly what they are; and secondly the benefits associated with the dental implant procedure. So why not scroll down and familiarise yourself?
Why bother replacing missing teeth?
You may be wondering what’s the point of replacing a missing tooth, especially if it’s towards the back where other people can’t see it. Well, when a tooth is missing it causes the adjacent teeth to move in an attempt to close the gap, and that causes further dental problems down the line.
This movement can cause a misalignment of your jaws, making it more difficult to bite and chew your food. This in turn may cause excessive wear and tear on certain teeth which may incur the need for dental crowns, and more dental costs. In addition, misaligned teeth often trap particles of food which can be difficult to reach with a tooth brush alone and this can cause a build up of bacteria, leading to plaque and gum infection, otherwise known as gingivitis. Although treatable in its early stages, severe gingivitis can lead to periodontitis which can undermine the jaw bone and cause teeth to fall out.
Dental Implants for every eventuality
Acting as replacement tooth roots, dental implants can be used to resolve a variety of missing tooth problems. Here at Confidental Clinic we regularly use dental implants with a crown to replace single missing teeth; but did you know that implants can also be used to support a bridge, eliminating the need for a removable denture? And if you’re one of the many denture wearers struggling to keep their dentures in place, then you’ll be pleased to know we can solve that issue too, by using implants to secure your dentures to your gums. To help patients who have lost a lot of their bone, we also fit Zygomatic implants which are longer than traditional implants and are placed on the diagonal into the cheekbones, so as to make use of the extra bone found there.
Never underestimate the power of your smile
The infographic above detailed all of the oral benefits of dental implants but there’s a lot more to be gained from having a great smile. In fact not so long ago, a survey carried out by one of the leading dating sites found that the first thing most people look for in a prospective partner is an attractive smile. Honestly!
What about if we said that a good looking smile can also enhance your career prospects? Yes really. A person who smiles a lot is perceived as being confident and trustworthy and that alone goes a long way when it comes to being considered for a job promotion.
So are you ready to take the plunge and have dental implants fitted?
